3 Things Every Business Should Refer To When Making TikToks

Yup. TikTok is here to stay.

When TikTok first came into my life, I’d be lying if I said I thought it would… become my thing.

The truth is, I thought I was an IG gal for life. Considering the success I’ve had in growing followers and being extremely ‘with it’.
But the truth is, even in my experience of growing IG accounts to 1m, so much has changed on our beloved Instagram since it was first revealed. Particularly in building an organic audience.

TikTok came into our lives in the same way a good guy comes along after years of lowering the bar. You’d simply given up on someone who could give you very basic things: transparency, consistency and a good laugh.
When it all comes along, it feels too good to be true. But it’s not. Congrats, you found someone who isn’t completely toxic.

Why am I talking about good men when I’m supposed to be talking about TikTok? Well, much like a good guy who comes along after years of lowering the bar — TikTok has entered our lives, just as we started to give up on the idea of building organic audiences.

When I think about what I look for in a good guy, I turn to the three qualities I mentioned earlier: transparency, consistency and a good laugh.
These qualities work for partners, but they also work for TikTok. Today I’m going to dive into these qualities and why businesses should practice them when starting their own TikTok account.

Transparency

As we get older, we value transparency more. We know what we want, we know what works for us and transparency stops us wasting good time. A lot of time can be wasted on social media (duh) but even more time can be wasted preparing and dedicating our creativity to posts which completely flop because ✨algorithms and Facebook want you to pay✨.
TikTok does this brilliant thing where it will literally show your videos to people they think will like it, even if they don’t follow you — this is the perfect opportunity to be transparent.
Do everything you can to be channelled into your audience niche. Pick songs you see your industry/audiences listening to, hashtag to the people you want to reach (NOT the masses) and be clear cut about who you are/what you do/what you sell in your content. If someone sees any of your videos for the very first time, is it clear what you do? Transparency is 🗝

Consistency

I feel like my number one issue in any failed relationship has been inconsistency. Anyone else? Just me?
Oh how we stan a consistent man — and how we also stan a consistent social presence. IG does this annoying thing where if you post too much, it’ll hide your content because it thinks you’re spamming. But TikTok does this great thing where if you post regularly, you’ll be rewarded.
If you post every day on TikTok, you heighten your chances of your other videos appearing on peoples profiles. TikTok basically sees your consistent activity as a sign you’re a regular creator and will show you off to people at random times. I’ve had experiences where I’ve had some videos perform just ok when they go live, then a month down the line they strike viral gold for no reason at all.
Even if you don’t deem your post as a win, consistency in itself is a win on TikTok.

A Good Laugh

There is nothing worse in this earth than a man who can’t laugh at himself. I should know, I’ve dated most of them.
There’s just something about people who take themselves too seriously which feels uncomfortable to me. And honestly? There’s something about a TikTok account which takes itself too seriously which feels uncomfortable too.
Now, I’m not saying you have to be a comedian to find your place on TikTok — but TikTok is fuelled on what’s real. Most platforms we scroll through are filled with unrealistic lifestyles and sights which can make us feel badly about ourselves and where we’re at in life. I’m sure we’ve all heard of Instagram vs Reality.
On TikTok, the more real you are — the better. That’s why some of the most viral videos are done in peoples pyjamas, are poor quality, or are done in seconds. The point is, be okay with imperfection. Be okay with laughing at yourself. Be okay with showing a more human side of your business. The TikTok people will prefer this and it’s a fun chance for you to show it off.

If you refer to these 3 things daily, you’ll nail the old Tikker Tokker! Have fun!💁🏻‍♀️
